Building Portable Careers for Military Spouses
Military spouses bring leadership, resilience, adaptability, and valuable professional experience to the workforce. However, military relocations, family responsibilities, licensing requirements, and changing duty assignments can make it difficult to establish and maintain a long-term career.
The TMS Academy MSEP Foundation Program helps military spouses explore training, industry certifications, career development resources, and portable employment opportunities in technology and other growing career fields.
Our program is designed to support the goals of the Military Spouse Employer Partnership, which connects military spouses with employers committed to recruiting, hiring, promoting, and retaining military spouses. Build your skills. Earn recognized credentials. Connect with career opportunities.
The mission of the TMS Academy MSEP Foundation Program is to help military spouses develop the skills, credentials, professional connections, and career confidence needed to pursue meaningful and portable employment.
Through training, career preparation, employer engagement, and community outreach, TMS Academy works to create pathways that can support military spouses throughout relocations, deployments, family transitions, and changes in their professional goals.
The program is designed for military spouses who are:
No previous technology experience is required for every pathway. Program requirements vary by course, certification, employer, and funding source.
TMS Academy provides career-focused training designed to help individuals prepare for industry-recognized certifications and technology-related career opportunities.
Training pathways may include:
Available courses, eligibility requirements, delivery formats, and funding options may vary.
Eligible military spouses may be able to request training support through the SpouseWorks Scholarship or another approved funding pathway.
TMS Academy helps prospective students understand the training process and provides the appropriate program documentation when applicable. Final eligibility and funding decisions are made by the organization administering the benefit or scholarship.
Certification training is one part of building a successful career. Military spouses may also need support presenting their experience, identifying transferable skills, and connecting their qualifications with employer needs.
Career-readiness services may include:
Participation does not guarantee employment, a particular salary, or placement with a specific employer.
TMS Academy recruits military-connected candidates for community outreach and program-support opportunities.
Outreach Specialists help connect service members, military spouses, veterans, and military families with information about TMS Academy training programs, certification pathways, events, and enrollment resources. TMS Academy’s existing outreach materials describe these opportunities as commission-based roles and emphasize that compensation terms must be provided in writing before work begins.
Outreach activities may include:
Military affiliation does not guarantee selection, earnings, funding approval, or enrollment results. Applicants must complete TMS Academy’s application, contractor review, onboarding, and training requirements before beginning authorized outreach.
TMS Academy seeks relationships with employers and organizations that support military spouse education, career advancement, and employment.
Potential partners may include:
TMS Academy’s earlier strategic planning included developing relationships with remote-friendly companies, creating a military talent pipeline, providing employer outreach materials, and connecting trained candidates with career opportunities.
Employers may be invited to:
Complete the interest form and tell us whether you are seeking training, certification preparation, career support, an outreach opportunity, or employer partnership information.
A TMS Academy representative reviews your information and helps identify the most appropriate available pathway.
Depending on your pathway, you may complete an orientation, training assessment, application, funding documentation, or career-readiness review.
Approved participants begin the applicable course, certification-preparation program, professional-development activity, or Outreach Specialist onboarding process.
Participants work toward developing technical skills, professional confidence, certifications, community connections, and career readiness.
When available and appropriate, TMS Academy may share employer information, career events, outreach opportunities, or additional professional-development resources.
Participants may remain connected to TMS Academy through career workshops, alumni engagement, employer events, continuing education, and community outreach.
Military families frequently manage relocations, deployments, changing schedules, and new communities. The TMS Academy MSEP Foundation Program emphasizes skills and career pathways that may be transferable across employers, industries, and geographic locations.
Depending on the opportunity, participants may explore roles in:
A certification or training program can strengthen career readiness, but it does not guarantee employment, advancement, income, or a particular career result.
Military spouses can offer employers valuable professional experience, flexibility, leadership, and an understanding of military-connected communities.
The Military Spouse Employer Partnership expects participating employers to support military spouse recruitment and retention, sign a Statement of Support following acceptance, and track and report military spouse hires. TMS Academy can help prospective employer partners explore opportunities to:
